MARINE NOTICE No 34 of 2014
SHANNON NAVIGATION & Shannon -Erne Waterway

Public Harbours – End of Winter Mooring Period
Masters and owners are advised that the winter mooring period finished on 31 Mar 2014 and Shannon Navigation Bye-law No. 17(3) now applies i.e. vessels should not berth in the same harbour for longer than the statutory period of
5 consecutive days nor more than a total of 7 days in any one month.

MARINE NOTICE - No 24 of 2014
Shannon Navigation, Royal and Grand Canals and Barrow Navigation

LANDING OF INTERNATIONAL CATERING WASTE (ICW)
Waterways Ireland has been requested by the Dept of Agriculture, Dublin to
bring to the attention of masters and owners of vessels, returning to or
arriving from outside Ireland that it is forbidden to land ship sourced food
waste on arrival.
Re: Prohibition on the landing of ship sourced food waste in accordance
Regulation (EC) No. 1069 of 2009, Regulation (EU) No. 142 of 2011, European
Communities (Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies and Animal
By-products)

MARINE NOTICE No 20 of 2014 – All Navigations
Floating Jetties – High Water Levels
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that access ramps to floating jetties will be removed or lifted as necessary, as water levels rise, to prevent structural damage to the jetties. Access to the jetties will be restricted while these conditions pertain.

MARINE NOTICE No 14 of 2014 Shannon Navigation
Lough Derg Middle Ground Rocks – Scarriff Bay Red Conical Buoy Replaced

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that Marine Notice No 12 of 2014 is now withdrawn and that the northernmost red conical buoy marking the Middle Ground Rocks in Scarriff Bay has been replaced in position.

MARINE NOTICE No 12 of 2014 – Shannon Navigation – Lough Derg
Middle Ground Rocks – Scarriff Bay Red Conical Buoy Adrift

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that a report has been received that the northernmost red conical buoy marking the Middle Ground Rocks in Scarriff Bay is adrift and last sighted in the vicinity of the Red Cage Buoy “B” at Hare Island.
Masters are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate with due caution when in this section of the navigation.

Lough  Derg Portumna Bridge – Hayes Island

Vessel Adrift
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that a report has been received that a vessel has broken its moorings at Hayes Island, Portumna Bridge and is presently drifting in the navigation.Masters are advised to keep a lookout for this craft and navigate with due caution when in this section of the navigation.

MARINE NOTICE No 9 of 2014 Shannon Navigation
Portumna Swing Bridge Closure. 

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that due to unforeseen circumstances
Portumna Swing Bridge will be closed for essential maintenance from next Monday 10th February until Monday 3rd. March 2014.
Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience that this may cause its customers.

Lough Derg Ballina – Dragon Boat Racing

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that a dragon boat racing event
will take place in Ballina on Sun 7 July between 1300 hrs and 1800hrs.
Masters are requested to note any advice from safety marshals when
passing through this section of the navigation.

MARINE NOTICE No. 64 of 2013 SHANNON NAVIGATION – KILLALOE
Killaloe Canal Swimming Event

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that a swimming event
associated with the Feile Brian Boru Festival will take place in the Killaloe Canal
on Sun 7th Jul between 1600hrs and 1700hrs from the Pier Head to the bridge.

Masters are requested to note any advice from safety marshals when passing through this section of the navigation.

MARINE NOTICE No. 34 of 2013 SHANNON NAVIGATION  Lough Derg
Mountshannon Protection of Breeding White-tailed Eagles

Waterways Ireland has been advised that protected White-tailed Eagles are
present and breeding on Bushy Island, Lough Derg.
To protect and minimise disturbance to nesting White-tailed Eagles in the
area, masters are requested to observe a voluntary exclusion zone by not
encroaching within 250m of the island and to proceed directly in and out of
the harbour without stopping near the island, particularly between the
months of May and August inclusive.
Masters should note that deliberate disturbance to nesting birds is illegal
under the Wildlife Act (1976).

Protection of Breeding Birds Mountshannon, Co. Clare

Waterways Ireland has been advised that protected birds are present and
