MARINE NOTICE No.78 of 2014
SHANNON NAVIGATIONLough Derg 39th Lough Derg Boat Rally
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that the above event
will take place on Lough Derg commencing on Fri 5th. July and finishing on
Sun 12th. July 2014. The Rally intends to visit the following harbours:
Dromineer, Terryglass, Rossmore, Mountshannon and Killaloe.

SHANNON NAVIGATION – Killaloe-Ballina Bridge

MARINE NOTICE No 73 of 2014
SHANNON NAVIGATION – Lough Derg – Dromineer Bay
Dinghy Sailing Events – Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that Lough Derg Yacht Club will host dinghy sailing events in the vicinity of Dromineer Bay, Lough Derg on Sat 28th and Sun 29th. Jun 2014 between 0900hrs and 1700hrs daily.
Masters are requested to proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash when passing this stretch of the navigation and note any advice given by safety boat crews marshalling the races. Waterways Ireland thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter.

MARINE NOTICE No 66 of 2014
SHANNON NAVIGATION – Lough Derg – Garrykennedy
Red Porthand Buoy Off Station
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that the red porthand buoy marking the entrance to the marina at Garrykennedy has been reported as being out of position. It can presently be found in a position farther to the east. MN#66 said that the proper buoy was off station some distance to the east of its correct location. Masters should approach the marina entrance with due caution.

SHANNON NAVIGATION – Killaloe-Ballina Bridge
***Hazard to Navigation***
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that part of a steel fishing frame, normally secured above the navigation arch, has fallen below the arch level and is presently reducing airdraft at this location.
Masters, particularly with vessels with high airdraft , should approach the bridge with due caution.

SHANNON NAVIGATION Lough Derg Killaloe
Navigation Restriction – Triathlon Event Sat 14 Jun 2014
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that the swim element of the above event will take place in the Killaloe Canal , from 1500hrs to 1800hrs on Sat 14th. Jun. The canal will be closed during this time.

SHANNON NAVIGATION, Grand Canal to Banagher, Fin Swimming Event
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and users of the Shannon Navigation that a fin swimming event will take place on Sun 8 June between 1230 hrs and 1630 hrs. The event will start at a point approximately 2.5km upstream of Banagher , at the junction of the Shannon and the Grand Canal, and finish in Banagher at the marina slipway. Swimmers taking part will be accompanied by a safety boat and will be wearing high visibility swim hats.Masters are requested to navigate at slow speed and with a low wash when passing the area and note any advice from the event safety boats in the interest of safety.

MARINE NOTICE No. 55 of 2014
Shannon Navigation – Lough Derg – Illaunmore

****Navigation Hazard****

Waterways Ireland has received a report that there is a 2 inch (50mm) steel bar sticking out of the water by about 4 inches (100mm), approximately two thirds of the way along a direct line between the eastern end of “Yellow Island” (the largest island on the northern side of Illaunmore) and Curraghmore Point (the nearest point of land to the north of Illanunmore).
This location appears to be in an area marked unsuitable for navigation, however, until such time as the report can be verified; masters are requested to keep a sharp look-out for this hazard when navigating in the vicinity of Illaunmore

MARINE NOTICE No. 54 of 2014
Shannon Navigation – Limerick Sarsfield’s Lock – Navigation Hazard

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that sheets of corrugated iron roofing material are lying on the bottom of the lay-by quay immediately downstream of Sarsfield’s Lock , Limerick. Boats and vessels manoeuvring in the quay area especially at or near low water should be mindful of this hazard and proceed at slow speed and with due caution.

MARINE NOTICE No 48 of 2014
Shannon Navigation, Limerick, Sarsfield’s Lock

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners of vessels and boats that Sarsfield’s Lock will be operated on restricted service from Thurs 22nd May to Fri 30th May 2014. During this time the lock will operate from 9am to 4:30pm daily.
Masters and owners are requested to ring the lockkeeper on 353 (0)87 7972998 one day prior to making their passage.

SHANNON NAVIGATION & Shannon -Erne Waterway

Public Harbours – End of Winter Mooring Period
Masters and owners are advised that the winter mooring period finished on 31 Mar 2014 and Shannon Navigation Bye-law No. 17(3) now applies i.e. vessels should not berth in the same harbour for longer than the statutory period of
5 consecutive days nor more than a total of 7 days in any one month.

Shannon Navigation, Royal and Grand Canals and Barrow Navigation

LANDING OF INTERNATIONAL CATERING WASTE (ICW)
Waterways Ireland has been requested by the Dept of Agriculture, Dublin to
bring to the attention of masters and owners of vessels, returning to or
arriving from outside Ireland that it is forbidden to land ship sourced food
waste on arrival.

Floating Jetties – High Water Levels
Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that access ramps to floating jetties will be removed or lifted as necessary, as water levels rise, to prevent structural damage to the jetties. Access to the jetties will be restricted while these conditions pertain.

Lough Derg Middle Ground Rocks – Scarriff Bay Red Conical Buoy Replaced

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that Marine Notice No 12 of 2014 is now withdrawn and that the northernmost red conical buoy marking the Middle Ground Rocks in Scarriff Bay has been replaced in position.

Middle Ground Rocks – Scarriff Bay Red Conical Buoy Adrift

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that a report has been received that the northernmost red conical buoy marking the Middle Ground Rocks in Scarriff Bay is adrift and last sighted in the vicinity of the Red Cage Buoy “B” at Hare Island.
Masters are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate with due caution when in this section of the navigation.

Lough  Derg Portumna Bridge – Hayes Island

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that a report has been received that a vessel has broken its moorings at Hayes Island, Portumna Bridge and is presently drifting in the navigation.Masters are advised to keep a lookout for this craft and navigate with due caution when in this section of the navigation.

Portumna Swing Bridge Closure. 

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise owners and masters that due to unforeseen circumstances
Portumna Swing Bridge will be closed for essential maintenance from next Monday 10th February until Monday 3rd. March 2014.

Killaloe Canal Swimming Event

Waterways Ireland wishes to advise masters and owners that a swimming event
associated with the Feile Brian Boru Festival will take place in the Killaloe Canal
on Sun 7th Jul between 1600hrs and 1700hrs from the Pier Head to the bridge.

Masters are requested to note any advice from safety marshals when passing through this section of the navigation.

MARINE NOTICE No. 34 of 2013 SHANNON NAVIGATION  Lough Derg
Mountshannon Protection of Breeding White-tailed Eagles

Waterways Ireland has been advised that protected White-tailed Eagles are
present and breeding on Bushy Island, Lough Derg.
To protect and minimise disturbance to nesting White-tailed Eagles in the
area, masters are requested to observe a voluntary exclusion zone by not
encroaching within 250m of the island and to proceed directly in and out of
the harbour without stopping near the island, particularly between the
months of May and August inclusive.
Masters should note that deliberate disturbance to nesting birds is illegal
under the Wildlife Act (1976).
